The purpose of Visual Telefacilitation is to increase the effectiveness of teleconferencing.
Teleconferencing is becoming extremely important to
modern business. Rising travel costs and a wide spread
emphasis on telecommuting have resulted in a dramatic
increase in the number of teleconferences each day.
Yet, unfortunately, the effectiveness of teleconferencing often fails to meet needs and expectations of telecommuters.
Distributed electronic meetings have unique characteristics and problems, and to facilitate their productivity requires special methodology and tools.
The Visual Telefacilitation Project at the Performing
Graphics Company is researching ways that real time
visual representation can increase the effectiveness of
teleconferencing. The technique being developed is the
use of graphic recorders for distributed meetings or
visual telefacilitators to provide a continuously
updated record of the meeting discussion for all of the
distributed participants.
